Hiyayakko (Cold Tofu)

Hiyayakko is a classic example of where you take 1 ingredient and you elevate it to something incredibly flavoursome. If you are looking for something different to eat, that is extremely easy to make then this would be excellent for you.

Ingredients

  • 1 Block of silky tofu
  • 4 Tb katsuobushi (dried bonito flakes)
  • Green onion/scallion to garnish
  • 2 tsp of grated ginger
  • 2 Tb of soy sauce to garnish
  • Cilantro to garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Cut the chilled tofu to a desired serving size
  2.  Top the tofu with the ingredients. Easy right?

Meal Swapper

  • 900g of fresh white fish (Sea Bass and Halibut are the traditional options)
  • A bag of limes (enough lime juice to soak the fish twice)
  • 1 Tb of chopped red hot pepper
  • 1/2 cup of red bell pepper / capsicum
  • 1 small red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup of fresh cilantro
  • Salt to taste

Your Advisor

The only ingredient with enough calories worth tracking is the tofu. Feel free to use more or less of the other ingredients.

Tofu is a complete source of protein and is an excellent choice for vegetarians or vegans.
